Dr. Lih-Yea Guo is a Canadian-trained psychologist practicing in Ontario in the fields of clinical and rehabilitation psychology. She has provided services to adults of many cultures for more than 13 years.

Dr. Guo offers culturally sensitive consultation, psychological assessments, screening, treatment, and coaching. Born in Singapore, she is fluent in English, Mandarin, Cantonese, and two other Chinese dialects. Dr. Guo is committed to providing prompt and effective psychological services to individuals, couples, and businesses. Her treatment aims to help clients achieve specific goals and positive results.

Dr. Guo believes that, with effective professional help, individuals and couples can be empowered to better cope with their challenges, circumstances, disabilities, stresses, and emotional injuries. Instead of struggling alone with their thoughts, feelings, behaviour, and habits, they can preserve their dignity and overcome feelings of despair, fear, and losing control. They can be helped to create new possibilities, find meaning, positive experiences and joy in their lives, and achieve fulfillment in their relationships, parenting, or career.

Dr. Guo understands the special impact of cultures on individuals and their families and appreciates that individuals may seek to balance their cultural values and their personal needs. She also understands the invisible impact of particular cultural events, such as the Chinese Cultural Revolution and the Holocaust, on individuals and their families.

Dr. Guo is registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario. She is a member of the Canadian Psychological Association, Ontario Psychological Association, Canadian Federation of Clinical Hypnosis, and the Canadian Society of Clinical Hypnosis (Ontario Division).

Dr. Guo has trained and worked in hospital settings and maintains an active private practice. She is also a service provider for the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB), Veterans Affairs Canada, and a clinical consultant at St. John’s Rehabilitation Hospital in Toronto.

Approach to Therapy

Dr. Guo strongly believes in finding the appropriate approach for each client rather than providing only single treatment option regardless of the client’s needs. For example, the techniques could include cognitive behavioural therapy, relaxation/visualization exercises, mindfulness meditation, or clinical hypnosis.

Clients who wish only a single consultation will be helped to understand a particular issue of concern and discuss a possible solution. More typically, after an initial consultation, Dr. Guo meets with clients at regular intervals to work toward treatment goals.
